Nicole Nocon (born 1969) is one of the Germans for whom it is an internal necessity to deal with the history of National Socialism and to keep alive the memory of the crimes of the Holocaust. During her history studies, she dealt intensively with National Socialism and privately with her own family history.
Her motivation to support Holocaust-education in German schools is not a sense of personal guilt, but of responsibility – responsibility for learning from history and responsibility for the protection of values such as tolerance, democracy and humanity today and in the future.
As a journalist and as a citizen of the city of Cottbus, Nicole Nocon has seen in her own environment how right-wing forces and hate preachers are becoming “socially capable” again and are increasingly finding followers. She does not want to stand idly by – sensitized by her preoccupation with history.
In Steven Schindler, Nicole Nocon has found a friend and like-minded person with whom she shares the conviction that human rights must be protected and that acceptance, humanity and empathy must be cultivated from an early age. This is the basis on which they founded their generationE initiative.
Nicole has a passion for literature, art and travel – across borders.
Nicole Nocon (Jahrgang 1969) gehört zu den Deutschen, für die es eine innere Notwendigkeit ist, sich mit der Geschichte des Nationalsozialismus auseinanderzusetzen und die Erinnerung an die Verbrechen des Holocaust wach zu halten. Während ihres Geschichtsstudiums hat sie sich intensiv mit dem Nationalsozialismus und privat mit ihrer eigene Familiengeschichte beschäftigt.
Ihre Motivation, sich für eine möglichste frühzeitige Holocaust-Bildung an deutschen Schulen einzusetzen, ist nicht ein Gefühl der persönlichen Schuld, sondern der Verantwortung – Verantwortung für die Aufarbeitung der Geschichte und Verantwortung für den Schutz von Werten wie Toleranz, Demokratie und Mitmenschlichkeit heute und in Zukunft.
Als Journalistin und als Bürgerin der Stadt Cottbus hat Nicole Nocon in ihrem eigenen Umfeld erlebt, wie rechte Kräfte und Hassprediger wieder „gesellschaftsfähig“ werden und zunehmend Anhänger finden. Dem will sie – sensibilisiert durch die Beschäftigung mit der Geschichte – nicht tatenlos zusehen.
In Steven Schindler hat Nicole Nocon einen Freund und Gleichgesinnten gefunden, mit dem sie die Überzeugung teilt, dass Menschenrechte geschützt und Akzeptanz, Mitmenschlichkeit und Empathie von klein an kultiviert werden müssen. Das ist die Grundlage, auf der sie ihre Initiative generationE gegründet haben.
Nicole hat eine Leidenschaft für Literatur, Kunst und Reisen – über Grenzen hinweg.
